We discovered Extra Life on a Thursday. Guild mate Viper had just introduced the us all to the new form of social sharing where gamers can stream footage of their games to share with friends or other gamers on a rad place called Twitch– and Extra Life, a charity that unites thousands of gamers around the world in a 24 hour gaming marathon to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, was being featured.
It sounded like an amazing cause for something we as a guild of gamers were born to do. The only problem was the 24 Hour Marathon was scheduled to happen that Saturday. Were we up to the task with no planning or preparation? Three of our guildies decided to try for it, with a $100 goal for each.
We chose to support SickKids, a local Toronto hospital where thousands of children are treated each year, regardless of their family’s ability to pay. These kids are facing scary stuff like cancer, cystic fibrosis, and injuries from accidents to name just a few.
24 Hours of gaming later and our team managed to raise just over $300 for charity. We are very proud of our gamers and want to say thank you to everyone who donated to this cause. We already have more guildies ready to hop on board for next year, #GamersForChange!
